Texas Instruments Introduces New High-Precision Hall-Effect Sensor and Integrated Shunt to Simplify Current Sensing

Texas Instruments (TI) today introduced several new current sensors designed to help engineers simplify designs and improve accuracy. Designed to operate over a wide common-mode voltage and temperature range, these new products include lower-drift isolated Hall-effect current sensors for high-voltage systems and eliminate the need for external shunt resistors for non-isolated voltage rails device current shunt monitor product line.



Featuring industry-leading reinforced isolation and high accuracy over lifetime and temperature, the new Hall-effect current sensor TMCS1123 simplifies design and provides excellent accuracy for high-voltage systems. Texas Instruments' new EZShunt™ product family includes small, fully integrated current shunt monitors and the industry's highest precision 75A integrated shunt solution for non-isolated systems up to 85V and 75ARMS. Fast and Precise Control Using Hall-Effect Current Sensors in High-Voltage Systems


Highly accurate current measurements are increasingly required in high-voltage systems such as electric vehicle chargers and photovoltaic inverters, but the high drift of Hall-effect current sensors over their lifetime makes them often overlooked. The TMCS1123 Hall-effect current sensor features a higher reinforced isolation operating voltage of 1,100VDC, a maximum sensitivity error of ±0.75%, a drift of 50ppm/°C over temperature, and a drift of ±0.5% over lifetime %. With the high precision of the TMCS1123, designers can optimize system performance while simplifying design. The device's high accuracy and excellent stability over its lifetime eliminates the need for recalibration of the device, reducing costly and time-consuming maintenance.


Additionally, precise control of power conversion is critical to optimize system efficiency and protection. The TMCS1123 has a low propagation delay of 600ns and a bandwidth of 250kHz, enabling faster control loops while maintaining low noise for improved system efficiency.


Simplify system design and reduce system size with EZShunt technology


Texas Instruments' new EZShunt family of current-sensing solutions simplifies designs by eliminating the need for external shunt resistors. The new product family offers a fully integrated current sensing solution that fits into a 1206 shunt resistor package, delivering the value of a discrete solution in the simplicity of a single chip.


The EZShunt product family is cost-effective and highly accurate with drift as low as 25ppm/°C and is available in a variety of packages and shunt resistance values. The INA700 is a small integrated current shunt monitor that enables engineers to reduce the size of current sensing solutions by up to 84%. The product family also includes the INA781, a high precision 75A integrated shunt solution capable of supporting common mode voltages up to 85V.

Packaging and Availability


The Hall-Effect Current Sensor TMCS1123 is now in pre-production and is currently available only on TI.com in a 10.3mm x 10.3mm, 10-pin Small Outline Integrated Circuit (SOIC) package. Meanwhile, designers can purchase the TMCS1123EVM. Various payment and shipping options are available on TI.com.cn. The TMCS1123 is also available in higher bandwidth and automotive compliant versions.


EZShunt products are now available in pre-production but only at TI.com and are available in a variety of packaging options as small as 1.319mm x 1.239mm. Various payment and shipping options are available on TI.com.cn. EZShunt products are also available in analog and automotive versions.
