Multilayer Ceramic Capacitors: TDK launches new low-resistance soft-terminal multilayer ceramic capacitors, further expanding its MLCC product lineup

Unlike conventional soft-terminal MLCCs that cover the entire terminal electrode with a resin layer, the new product's resin layer only covers the board mounting side, Allows current to be transmitted outside the layer, thereby reducing resistance. TDK Corporation (TSE: 6762) has expanded its CN series multilayer ceramic capacitor (MLCC) products with unique designs and structures. Unlike traditional soft-terminal MLCCs that cover the entire terminal electrode with a resin layer, the resin layer of the new product only covers the board mounting side, allowing current to be transmitted outside the layer, thereby reducing resistance. The soft-terminal multilayer ceramic capacitor adopting this structure is the first in the industry*. By adding CNA series (vehicle grade) and CNC series (commercial grade) products, the market demand for large capacitors can be met.


The new low-resistance soft-termination MLCCs are available in sizes 3216 (3.2 × 1.6 × 1.6 mm – L x W x T) and 3225 (3.2 × 2.5 × 2.5 mm – L x W x T) with capacitances of 22 ㎌ and 47 ㎌ respectively, Higher capacitance compared to conventional products helps reduce component count and size.


Soft-terminated MLCCs protect the power and battery lines from short circuits. But since the terminal electrode resistance of the soft terminal is slightly higher, it is necessary to keep the resistance low to reduce losses.


The automotive-grade CNA series complies with AEC-Q200 standards.


Mass production of the new products will begin in September 2023. This series of products also complements the CN series launched in September 2021 to meet the continued demand for higher capacity.
